Becoming a Drone Pilot
To register for the FAA Part 107 Examination, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Create an Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA ) profile to obtain an FAA Tracking Number (FTN).
Step 2: Schedule a time to take the exam at an FAA approved knowledge testing center. You can find a testing center near you here.

- Remember to bring a government issued photo ID to your test.

Step 3: Pass the initial Part 107 knowledge test, "Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG )". Some of the topics on the exam will include:

- Regulations on rating privileges, limitations, and flight operation for small unmanned aircraft
- Classes of airspaces and their operating requirements
- Effects of weather on small UAS performance
- UAS loading and performance
- Emergency Procedures
- Crew resource management
- Radio communication
- Effects of drugs and alcohol
- Decision-making and judgement
- Airport operations
- Maintenance and preflight inspections
- Operations at night

Step 4: Once you've passed the aeronautical exam, complete the FAA Form 8710-13 for the remote pilot certificate. This can be done using the IACRA you previously created in step 1.

- Application type: "Pilot"
- Certifications: "Remote Pilot"

- Start Application
- Follow prompts in the application
- Enter your 17-digit Knowledge Test Exam ID when prompted
- Electronically sign your application and submit

Step 5: A confirmation will be sent to you which will provide you with instructions on printing a copy of your temporary remote pilot certificate
Step 6: Have your remote pilot certificate with you and available whenever you fly your UAS
