11/01 Draft Update Discussion

  • Due Nov 1, 2018 by 11:59pm
  • Points 100
  • Submitting a discussion post
  • Available Oct 30, 2018 at 12am - Nov 5, 2018 at 11:59pm
This assignment was locked Nov 5, 2018 at 11:59pm.

Summary of the Task

You will check-in with your group on the work you are doing on your Research Poster Project. You will post responses to the questions below about your Research Poster by November 1, and provide support and advice to the members of your writing group by November 5 (end of the grace period).

Instructions

Step 1: Due by Thursday, November 1
Check-in with your group on the work you are doing on your Research Poster Project. There are five questions you can respond to below. The idea is to share a little about what you’re doing, where you are in the process, and what your plans are. You are also letting your group know the kind of advice or help you need from them. Remember that if you do not post your update by noon on Sunday, November 4, you do not get credit for the activity.

Here are the questions:

  1. What topic are you working on? Remind everyone in the group in a few words or a sentence (no longer than a Tweet).
  2. What work have you done so far on your research poster project this week? (Just explain where you are.)
  3. What’s one thing you hope to get accomplished on your research poster project by Monday, 11/05? What goal have you set?
  4. What is a piece of advice you can share about research posters that might help someone in your writing group?
  5. What questions do you have that your writing group can help you with?

Step 2: Due by Monday, November 5 (end of the grace period)
Read through the responses from your group members and provide support and advice. In particular, try to help with whatever questions your group members have. You might also share anything about research posters  that you feel you do well to let others in your group know how you might help them.

As you provide support and advice, look for ways to say something new that will help the others in your group. You are not obligated to provide support and advice for any updates posted after noon on Sunday, November 4.

Assessment

I grade your Draft Update Discussion based on completion, using two general questions:

  • Did the person submit a check-in post that shares details about their project with their writing group by noon on Sunday?
  • Did the person respond with support and/or advice to all group members who submitted drafts by noon on Sunday?

If the answer to both questions is “Yes,” you will earn a Complete (signified by a checkmark in Canvas Grades). If the answer to either question is “No,” you will earn an Incomplete (signified by an X in Canvas Grades). Draft Update Discussions are graded after the Grace Period ends, and they cannot be revised or completed after the Grace Period.
