Stated Rationale or Purpose for Using a Mixed Methods Approach
If you have not done so already, put the 6 articles in your annotated bibliography in a single Word file.
For each entry, add a heading called, Purpose or Rationale. For each entry, zero in on the purpose statement in each article and look for language that implicitly or explicitly communicates the reasons or rationale for using mixed methods. Identify the rationale or rationales from the Greene, Caracelli, and Graham (1989) typology (e.g. triangulation, complementarity, expansion, development, and initiation) that most closely aligns with the reasons given for using mixed methods. If you think the reason (implied or explicit) spans two of the Greene et al categories, list two reasons.
If you can spot no reason or justification for using mixed methods write "no reason." Add a sentence or two that justifies your choice of rationale.
Up-load the entire Word file with this added section for each of the six entries.
The assignment will be graded, first, for completeness. Secondly, knowledge of the assigned reading and ability to apply it to your set of articles will be evaluated in terms of the reasons you supply for the rationale you picked to associate with each entry in your bibliography.
