Discussion 2: Paradigms

  • Due Feb 4, 2016 by 11:59pm
  • Points 30
  • Submitting a discussion post
  • Available Jan 25, 2016 at 12am - Feb 5, 2016 at 11:59pm
This assignment was locked Feb 5, 2016 at 11:59pm.

This discussion should be completed with a minimum of two posts: the first is due by Wednesday, midnight; the second is due by Thursday, midnight.

First Post. Without labeling yourself with the name of a research or philosophical paradigm (e.g. positivist, post-positivist, constructivist, pragmatist, etc) use a paragraph to describe your own philosophical viewpoints about ontology (the nature of reality), epistemology (the researcher’s relationship to the participant), methodology, and axiology and what ways you see those viewpoints influencing your interests and the way you do research. You may well cross paradigm lines with your statements.

Second Post 2 (due Thursday, midnight). In paragraph form, respond to someone else’s post and label their viewpoints on the paradigmatic continuum. Be explicit about what sentences in the original post reflect what paradigm. You may be responding to someone whose post reflects multiple paradigms. If that is the case, be explicit about which statements most reflect which paradigm.

Beside the issue of being on-time, grading will consider:

1. Accuracy of use and application of each of three terms in the first entry: ontology, epistemology, axiology, and methodology.

2. Shows some knowledge of reading without extensive quoting.

3. The second reply refers to specific paradigms by name (positivist, post-positivist, constructivist)
