Special Events

Special events, like drone races or competitions, could involve flights that may deviate from the policy and protocols. The special-events protocol exists to help facilitate these events when they can be conducted safely.

• Read the protocol

You must  apply for permission  to conduct flights under this protocol. Because of the unique nature of these operations, applications should be submitted as far in advance as possible but no fewer than 15 business days  before the proposed flight.

Approval for these events will require

• A detailed description of the event, including deviations from standard policy and protocols and any special equipment or requirements, on file with the UAS Safety Office.
• A technical and safety review completed by the UAS Oversight Committee.

This protocol is supplemental to other location-based protocols relevant to the operation.
