Non-University Property

Flying a university-owned aircraft outside university-controlled property does not require prior approval from the UAS Oversight Committee. Operators still must follow all federal, state, and local laws. 

Protocol for university owned UAV operation outside university property

Requirements include: 

  • Part 107 FAA Remote Pilot Certificate
  • Complete the Virginia Tech UAS Training
  • Register your aircraft with VT Risk Management

Any questions regarding flights with VT-owned aircraft on non-VT property can be directed to the UAS Safety Office.
