Create a word document or ppt for all of the following diseases and each must include

 1) Causal agent – name of the fungus

2) Conditions for maximum infection – temperature, leaf wetness, ETC.

3) Specific sign and symptoms of the disease

4) The most common specie(s) of turfgrass on which this disease occurs

5) Name several BMPs mainly how nitrogen or mowing increases or decreases the amount of the disease

6) What makes it stand out from other diseases? (distinctive appearance and timing)

7) References used for this disease -wikipedia is not a legitimate source

EXAMPLE: Red thread/ Pink patch

               1) Laetisaris Fuciformis   -NOTE: THIS IS THE NAME OF THE FUNGUS NOT THE TURFGRASS

                              2) Early summer – cooler weather 60 -70o with frequent rainfall

               3) Typically seen as irregular shaped patches of blighted turfgrass that are usually 2 inches to 3 feet in diameter.  The disease is confined to the leaves and leaf sheaths only.  Under the right weather conditions this disease can be completely covered with pink gelatinous growth of the disease blade.  Close examination will reveal a light reddish color to the sheath.

               4) Most species of cool season grasses.

               5) Low N and or K increase chance of disease. Add low doses of N to help the turf offset the damage

               6) Has red tendrils at the leaf tips.  Red Thread is generally the first disease of the year to be seen on turfgrass.

               7) Couch, Houston 2000 THE TURFGRASS DISEASE HANDBOOK, Krieger Publishing Co.
