  1. Human rights need to be revaluated in relation to artificial intelligence
  • As a reaction to the rapid increase in technological singularity, there has been more and more speculation on the declaration of human rights. The United Nations General Assembly established the official Universal Declaration of Human Rights to adopt the basic means every human being is entitled to live in a world of equality, freedom, and justice. The growth in artificial intelligence and automation has caused an absence in decent work opportunities. The popularity in machines that can more quickly and efficiently produce products and services than humans need to be regulated in order to uphold the demand in factory workers. In order to do this, there needs to be limitations on automatic machinery in factory productions. Our right to privacy in relation electronic devices is also one that has been compromised in scientific development.  The use of the Amazon Alexa device as plausible evidence has brought acknowledgement to how and when personal information recorded by technology becomes an invasion of privacy. The algorisms created for commonly used electronic devices have become so convenient that there is a gray area on what is appropriate to document and what is an invasion. This can range depending on the user of the device itself, and if they value convenience over their privacy, although the greater impact technology has on our society has requires an establishment of guidelines. Once a basis of regulations are solidified, individuals can use their own moral ethics on what information can be accessed.

2.) Stricter moderation on prescriptions given for attention-deficit disorders and anti-anxiety medication.

a.) Recent study in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, showed a 50% increase in depression in adolescent in the past 11 years. These dramatic increases correlate with prescriptions written out for serotonin inhibitors. Selective medications such as Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, and Paxil have shown a short period of an increase in depressive symptoms when they start them. Because of these side effects, it causes more risk for deaths by suicide, and other solutions could be taken to resolve their depressive disorder. The correlating increase in mental illness in adolescents and the popularity of attention deficit disorders and anti-anxiety medications should be resolved by reducing the inclination to resort to prescription drugs with other outlets. Other outlets may include therapy, exercise, art, meditation, etc. and are just as many other resources as there are prescription meds to cure such illnesses. The difference in mental illnesses and other sicknesses or diseases is the fact that it can be treated with something other than a virus. Mental disorders vary depending on who is suffering, which is a wide range. This means that not ever case can be cured with drugs, and there are other treatments that tend to get ignored because of the ease to medications. A continuation in the use of prescription drugs to treat mental illnesses increases the risk in addiction, furthered threat to self, and threat to others.

3.) Space based solar-energy needs to be further developed in reaction to the rise of global warming.

a.) Records indicate that global warming continues to become of greater concern as our ozone layer thins and develops holes. A leading cause to this is the large emissions of Co2 chemicals that stem from population growth. Fossil fuels are our main source of energy for factory work, transportation, and everyday living. As the human race has evolved, the amount of fossil fuels burned and emitted into our atmosphere has grown at too rapid of a pace for our ozone layer to repair itself. If this continues we may not have an ozone layer anymore, and can ultimately result in the end of existence as we know it. While we can’t fully control the population increase which causes the excessive chemical release, we can develop better ways to obtain energy that doesn’t harm the environment. While space based solar power seems far fetched, it is a possibly that can be physically reached with deeper aerospace technological advancements. Recent studies have shown that the possibility can become a reality but such technology required costs billions of dollars. More government funding needs to be dedicated to the creation of space based solar-energy in order to save our existence from the harms of global warming. The invention of solar based energy could also remove the conflict between nation states by discarding the need for exchange of fossil fuels. It is in constant question to what government has ownership to what, in regard to land, treaties, and agreements. The considerable demand for fossil fuels amongst countries has unavoidably caused warfare and rivalries. As a solution to both the need for energy and escalated conflict, space based solar power is a provider of an unlimited resource.

4.) Genetic computing should be established to prevent and plan for future genetic material.

a.) Genetic programming has made it possible for modern medicine to predict future health matters based on your biological information. Biological genetics can involve the passing of diseases and disabilities, and although they may not come to surface in near time, medical DNA deductions can not only prevent but regulate any health concerns. Algorithms need to be created based on genetics and evolution history for medical technology in order to save human lives and reduce the need for medical resources. Genetic computing that can record a biological indication for a disease it can enable immediate medical care in order to prevent the disease or control it from worsening. This would remove the demand for further medical resources that would save the individual time and money. Prematurely diagnosing in response to genetic programming enforces moderate treatment to take place before it needs more advanced care. Not only does is financially benefit individuals but it also allows other candidates to medical care that in some situations they might have not had access to. An absence of genetic programming will eventually cause a lack in medication supply. The rise in population only causes a greater need for health care that does not correlate with the production of available treatments. The development of genetic computing will relieve the immense demand in the prescription drug industry for treating severe or chronic illnesses. Tending to an issue before it becomes hard to manage is effective for the pharmaceutical industry because it opens up better access for all individuals who are suffering from illnesses that couldn’t have been prevented. This promotes a longer life span for mankind as well as less stress on health care.

5.) Government needs to authorize regulations for artificial intelligence

a.) We all understand the fact that artificial intelligence affects our everyday living, our government needs to take responsibility in regulating the use as well as common principles. If the popularity of artificial intelligence is not slowed down, there is the reality of it causing economic vulnerability and possible civilization destruction. As I discussed the technology violating the human right to privacy, it also serves as a common way for hackers to gain access to confidential information such as financial data. The majority of our countries economy is exchanged electronically, and although it provides instant transfers, it also opens up confidential financial information vulnerable to unauthorized access. Because of the dependency of electronic current exchange, the absence of tangible currency allows the possibility of plagiarism. As the advancement in mental intelligence and electronic advancements positively correlate, the concern for fabricating this information is widely acknowledged. Although it would be difficult to establish limitations in technological development, the government upholds the authority to construct a base of regulations in the usage of artificial intelligence. Regulations drawn in the use of automotive inventions need to be involved in factory production work, economy, and personal information intake.
