Chen: Manifesto

  • We should focus on improving technology to unimaginable levels.

Technological advancements are constantly happening in this modern era as things are being introduced to society every day. These new technological devices make our lives easier and more productive. For example, in the past decade, smartphones and computers have been heavily developed and improved to be able to send emails and messages to people across the world in just a matter of seconds as opposed to sending mail which takes weeks. In the past century, cars and airplanes have been vastly developed to make travel fast and easy. Technology allows us to do things that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. If we continue to focus on improving technology, there could be things invented that seem nearly impossible. These things include the cure of diseases and cancer which would save the lives of so many people. Also, if the great majority of people owned self driving cars, driving would be a lot safer as the cars would be able to communicate and avoid crashes. Also, devices could be inserted into a human’s brain allowing them to have unlimited memory and storage similar to that of a computer. With the crazy improvements in technology, we would also be able to explore the depths of the ocean that are unknown and discover so much about our planet as well as space. Right now, it may seem crazy to think about or believe, but that is exactly what people in the past century would think if they heard that the world today was going to be like this. I adopted this because technology is the future, and there are an endless amount of opportunities if we continue to improve our technology. People should take this seriously because if we don’t develop our technology and improve it, our world will not develop as well. Technology is the thing that will develop our world in the future.

  • The world should collectively work to make sure technology is safe and ensures privacy.

With the rapid acceleration of technological development occurring in this modern era, it is hard for even the government to keep pace with the devices being introduced. Drones, for example, have been introduced into the market out of nowhere and people can purchase one by going to an electronic store. With these drones, people have the ability to follow someone and stalk them without them knowing. This is a major issue as it allows people to invade other people’s privacy in ways not present before. Also, with the increase use of computers and social media platforms, there are many ways to invade privacy as well. Companies, such as Facebook and Google, have the ability to record every single click you make and they put that into a database. Your history can always be retrieved by the government and they can always see what you do online. Even if you delete your history, it is never fully gone. Also, these social media companies keep track of what you click and determine the type of person you are so they display things that are attracting to the user. The world and governments all need to work together to try to keep track with the pace of technology and figure out ways to keep technology safe. This will ensure people’s privacy will be safe which ensures they are safer. I adopted this because a majority of class discussions talk about the invasion of privacy that technology brings and it is a very scary thought. If technology continues to develop, there will be greater opportunities to invade privacy and that needs to be stopped and fixed. The problem with this is that some people may not care enough and not support helping reduce the invasion of privacy. Also, hackers are going to continuously figure out ways to hack into the technological devices. We should all take this seriously though because as technology develops, there will be more ways to invade privacy, so the government and people need to work together to figure out efficient ways to ensure our privacy totally isn’t invaded.

  • The use of electricity and renewable energy rather than fuel should be the main energy source.

Every so often, we here on the news or other sources that the world is slowly using up all our resources and that the world is running out at a rapid rate. Cars are running on fuel as well as other machineries which burn carbon dioxide and other harmful chemicals into the air. Not only are these bad for our planet, but it uses up a lot of resources. That is why there has been a great focus on the implementation of renewable energy such as electric cars and solar panels. If we continue to use fuel and other harmful sources of energy, global warming is going to get worse and our world is going to heavily suffer. Using electric cars helps reduce the pollution in our world and saves a lot of resources. Also, running homes using solar panels and other renewable energies will save so many resources. It will make the world much healthier and that is vital if the population is going to continue to grow and rely on more energy. I adopted this because I am vastly concerned with the pollution and use of harmful sources of fuel currently being used in the world today. These harmful chemicals are damaging our healths along with the healths of all the life around us. For example, in China, it is dangerous to even breathe in some places and the sunlight is blocked from the pollution. If this continues, the whole world is going to suffer greatly and it could even be too late to fix. The problem with this is that some countries are so used to using harmful chemicals as fuel and switching would take a lot of money and time. Changing a society to using renewable energy sources would take a lot of time and some people don’t have the money to make the change. It would take a whole collective effort over time to slowly transition. We should all take this seriously because if we don’t make an effort, our planet is going to be harmed mightily to the point where we won’t be able to take it back.

  • We ought to turn third-world countries into striving countries.

There are already lots of organizations and programs dedicated to helping the people that reside in third-world countries. These third-world countries lack many of the things us people living in America take for granted. These things include food, technology, and shelter. A lot of these people in the third-world countries do not have sufficient access to these necessities. Many of them struggle to find food and are usually very underweight while Americans have access to food everywhere. We even often overeat and enjoy delicious foods while they eat whatever they can manage to grab. Also, we have access to so many technological devices that are entertaining and useful to help us develop as a country. In third-world countries, many of them don’t even have electricity and everything is manual labor which is so much work. They also lack education so many of them grow up without the knowledge that Americans have. We have access to education and many students take that for granted. Some kids in third-world countries even walk for hours just to get to the closest school. I adopted this because I know there have been efforts to help third-world countries and try to help the people there out, but there isn’t enough effort currently present. We need a greater effort and impact by more people to help make a significant change. The changes right now are only for a short period of time and aren’t permanent. We donate food and supplies to them but they don’t last forever. If everyone put in effort, we could make great changes. The problem with this is that many Americans and other people don’t care enough to make a difference. Many people only care about their lives and the people around them and never consider those that are struggling to survive. A lot of people won’t want to use their own time to help those in need. This should be taken seriously because if the world works together to improve, then all these countries that are struggling will be able to work together to create a coherent world. We could save millions of lives in the third-world countries and those people could do amazing things for the world if they had to opportunity.

  • We should have proper ways to kill animals for human consumption.

Many people turn vegetarian or vegan because of the way animals are killed for consumption. A lot of animals are slaughtered in inhumane ways and experience traumatic pain. Many of these animals are totally alive and hung on a rope only for a knife to slice their throat. There, they suffer and bleed to death while crying for help. It is something that isn’t really considered by people when they eat foods. There are organizations such as PETA that try to stop animal cruelty but there isn’t enough support. Animals also live in crammed environments and live an awful life only to be killed. People should start emphasizing that the animals be killed in a more humane way that causes less pain. Some techniques include using a stun gun which doesn’t hurt them but just makes them not feel anything and install a friendlier environment for the animals to live in. The way that this can be done is if people help companies and organizations introduce rules and policies for the slaughter of animals. Also, more people could advocate and push for more humane slaughter and if there are enough people, change could happen. I adopted this because I have seen videos and documentaries of animals being slaughtered where they are kicked, tied up, and beaten up. They are treated so badly and it is sickening. It is no way to treat any animal, even if they are going to be consumed eventually. The problem with this is that many people don’t care enough to make an effort to stop it. PETA is already trying to stop it but there isn’t enough support from people and the government to fully install rules and regulations. Many people don’t care about how the animal dies and just care about the food they eat. This is important because animals are continuously being slaughtered in such painful, inhumane ways that goes unnoticed by the vast majority of the population. There needs to be a stop to this before more animals continue to suffer.

  • We should teach and emphasize to the future generations about the importance of healthy eating habits along with consistent exercise.

There is an ongoing epidemic currently happening in many countries especially in America. This epidemic is known and referred to as obesity. Almost 80 million adults and 13 million children in the US deal with obesity. That is an alarming amount of people as there are people even struggling to eat. The reason for obesity is due to the amount of food that is available to us along with the laziness of people because of the entertainment of technology. Going down a block, people will past by many fast food restaurants and unhealthy food options that are not only cheap, but delicious. The delicious flavors keep people coming back for more and thus slowly gaining weight. The fast food and junk food people consume is very unhealthy and causes people to gain weight quickly. Not only this, but technology is causing people to become lazier than ever. People just drive everywhere and sit on desks with computers all day. At home, people stay on the couch watching tv or scrolling through their phones rather than going outside and enjoying the weather. People rather sit at home and eat junk food rather than going outside to exercise. This alarming obesity rate costs a lot of money and causes people to die at an early age. I adopted this because I did a project on this in high school and I learned so much about obesity and how big of a problem it truly is. It definitely goes unnoticed because we are so used to going outside and seeing obese people. The problem with trying to fix this is that some people don’t care and just love to eat foods. It is a difficult habit to stop and people always crave fast food. With the future generations, adults can try to introduce healthy foods into their lives but they will eventually be exposed to fast food and they will definitely like it. It is because fast food is everywhere and it is hard to reduce the number of fast food chains. This is important because we need to reduce the obesity rates of Americans and those around the world to save money and use the extra food to help those in need. Obesity is causing people to die early and making them afraid to do things they normally would do.
