Legalities

It is important to remember that while you are participating in the Virginia Cooperative Extension internship you are not the contracted Extension agent of your unit. The student intern cannot be considered a contracted employee for Virginia Cooperative Extension. A contracted Extension professional shall be available to supervise the intern and to assume responsibility for program participants, both under-aged and adult. As an intern, you are not authorized to sign any contract or agreement on behalf of Virginia Cooperative Extension such as bus and facility use agreements.

As a Virginia Cooperative Extension student intern, you have liability coverage through the Commonwealth of Virginia as you act within the scope of your duties and responsibilities as a representative of Virginia Cooperative Extension.  This does not include willful acts outside your scope of duties nor criminal acts.  Taking on responsibilities that are not assigned or part of your documented duties and responsibilities could place you at personal risk.
