Research Proposals: An Introduction

Please note that there are two assignment options available for the Project Management Module:

Your teacher will decide which of these assignments you will work on for the module.

Since the research proposal is linked to the type of final project you will produce, the Research Proposal Module will provide samples documents and content for each type of final project. Because the second sample is drawn from a small summer course, it is for an individual project. You can download complete copies of the two proposals below.

The objective of your upcoming Research Proposal is to set forth and provide support for the subject you will be researching in depth for the final assignment in this course: the recommendation report assignment.

First, the physical requirements of the document:

  • Genre: Memo [set up as a memo from you to me]
  • Length: 3-4 pp
  • Format: headings; single space within sections; double space between sections and around headings; page numbering. Either indent paragraphs or double space between paragraphs. DO NOT do both. Wrap text around visuals.
  • Illustrations: At least one. Use as many as needed to make the subject compelling, but don't add them simply for the sake of doing so. Wrap text around visuals and make sure you have textual references to visuals.
  • Design: Remember that color, spacing, lists, horizontal rules, and boxes can also be visual elements.
