Introduction
Most if not all of the key decisions in a business are made by people (i.e., except those made by computers, which are still programmed by people). Arguably, then, human resources are the most important aspect of any company. This chapter will explore strategies for the effective management of people and the main functions of human resources professionals.

- Explain how companies train and develop employees, and discuss the importance of a diverse workforce.
- Identify factors that make an organization a good place to work, including competitive compensation and benefits packages.
- Explain how managers evaluate employee performance and retain qualified employees.
- Explain other key terms related to this chapter including: flextime; 360-degree feedback; behavioral interviewing; sexual harassment.
