Class Participation Guidelines MGT 1104.
Due to the online nature of this course, there are multiple ways and opportunities to participate. The following guidelines should contribute to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for everyone. We ask that all students abide by them throughout the semester.
- Cameras must be on during class and should be turned on as soon as you have joined the class. This is especially important when in small groups. Attendance will occasionally be taken, and credit will not be given unless your camera is on and you are in the video (you can't just turn it on and walk away!). It is unfair to your classmates if I divide you all into small groups and you are not participating.
- Respect the right of others to hold opinions and beliefs that differ from your own. When you express disagreement, challenge the idea rather than attack the person.
- Be courteous by not interrupting or engaging in your own private conversations during class. Keep cell phones in your bag and silenced during class time.
- Share the floor with others by not dominating the conversation.
- Try not to silence yourself out of concern for what others will think or say. If you see something missing from the discussion, please add it.
- Encourage others to participate, especially in small-group settings. Aim for inclusivity in conversations always. There is something to be learned from everyone!
- Be aware that the professor is not always right - feel free to tactfully challenge the thoughts and ideas you are hearing in class.
Class attendance is expected, but as adults you make your own decisions. If you choose to skip class, you will miss learning opportunities and your overall grade may be impacted, but there will be no specific point deduction. However, if you logon to class and just walk away from the computer/have your camera aimed at the ceiling/aren't actively in class, you will receive a 2 point deduction off that chapter's quiz. Why? If you choose to not attend, you only hurt yourself. If you pretend to attend, you will negatively impact others' learning because when you are put into discussion/project groups, that group will be short one person.
