Media Tips

  • Include captions, a transcript, and/or an ASL interpreter
    • When including audio and video in your content, besure to accompany the media with at least one of these options. The more of these utilized, the better.

  • Add alternative text to images
    • When adding alt text to images, it’s not necessary to say “This is an image of” or “Picture of”; you can simply describe the contents of the image.
    • If the image is a graph, describe the main takeaways from the graph. For example, “Pie chart shows that 42% of students prefer pumpkin pie, 47% prefer apple pie and 11% are undecided.”
    • If an image is purely decorative, it should be marked as such.

  • Don’t rely on color for meaning
    • Why?
      • Color has different symbolic meanings across cultures.
      • Color can act as a barrier to individuals with color blindness and other visual impairments.
    • Instead
