Zoom Exercises
If you’re not sure how to complete a given task, VT 4Help's Knowledge Base is a great resource with step-by-step learning guides. In your TA role, you may be asked to do tasks you’ve never done before, so knowing how to leverage VT 4Help is a crucial skill.
To complete the exercises below, you will need a small group consisting of yourself and at least two others. To find your Zoom Group, navigate to People on the left-hand sidebar and then the Groups tab.
Manage the Waiting Room
- Refer to 4Help Video Conferencing - How to Hold Zoom Conferences on a PC or Mobile Device. Look for when and why you should enable the waiting room feature.
- Then, check out Zoom’s guide to waiting rooms Links to an external site. to learn how to manage incoming participants.

Finally, find two or more peers and take turns hosting the meeting. Each person should practice the following:
- Admit all participants to the meeting simultaneously.
- Admit only one participant at a time.
- Return a participant to the waiting room.
- Remove a participant from the meeting altogether.
Manage Breakout Rooms

With the same peers from before, try using breakout rooms as both a participant and a host. Each person should practice the following:
- As a host, assign rooms automatically.
- As a host, assign rooms manually.
- As a participant in a breakout room, ask for help.
- As a host, visit a breakout room.
- As a host, send a written message to participants in breakout rooms.
